Hopkins Grammar School
The Class of 1965
|After graduating from Hopkins, Bob
entered Cornell's College of Engineering. He pole vaulted
for the freshman track team and was a member of Phi Kappa
Psi fraternity. After marrying a fellow Cornellian,
Stefany Westgate, in 1970, he began working for Eli Lilly
& Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. Assigned to a
sales territory in southwest Ohio, Bob moved to Xenia,
Ohio where he was a survivor of the devastating tornado
In 1976 Bob came back to Connecticut to become operations manager for Nichols Engineering, a family business in Shelton. He moved to Woodbridge where he and his wife raised three children, Philip, Christopher and Ellen.
|The family business was
sold in 1980 and after supervising the transition to new
ownership, Bob began law school at the University of
Bridgeport. Graduating with his J.D. and LL.M in taxation
in 1987, he joined two other attorneys in Kensington,
Connecticut to practice estate planning and estate
administration. Bob has worked with clients of our
classmates, Dick Hutchinson and Jim Waterman.
Bob's oldest son, Philip, is a senior at Clemson University, majoring in Computer Science. Christopher "Topher" was the captain of Amity High School's hockey team and was an all-conference goalie. Topher is a junior at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston where he is majoring in Architecture and Construction Management. Bob's daughter, Ellen, graduated from Hopkins where she was consistently the top of her class academically and earned varsity letters in field hockey, softball and fencing. She was the captain of the fencing team and has been Connecticut's individual state foil champion since her sophomore year. In 1997, she placed 5th in the Division III National Fencing Championships in California. She will attend Harvard College beginning in September, 1998.

Here is one of Bob's, which he brought to the Karl Crawford Memorial in October, 2005.

|This note from Bob was sent to the webmaster in November 2006||Since my last website posting all of my kids have graduated from college and are employed.|
Philip lives in North Carolina, Topher in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and
Ellen in Boston. My wife and I now have two grandchildren, Lauren born
in August of 2003 and Carson born in April of 2006. Both are the
children of Topher and his wife, Maureen.
After practicing law since 1987 I gave up my license in 2005 to spend my time serving as fiduciary for various trusts and estates. I continue to prepare tax returns for individuals and entities. Being a trustee for 15 trusts and either executor or advisor for several estates has kept me busy.
My office is now in my home where the overhead is low. The summer of 2006 was well spent by replacing the roof on my house. Roofing is much less fun that I thought it would be. I completed the project in three months having to stop often because the back and knees are not as supple as they used to be. No leaks so far. The firewood is cut and split for this winter so I will be able to keep warm between snow plowing jobs. I bought a new tractor and plow and will be plowing driveways in the neighborhood.
Everyone here is healthy and I look forward to our next class get together whether it is a big reunion or just a few of us having a beer or two.
